The Animal Welfare League Queensland

The Animal Welfare League of Qld takes care of approximately 10,000 strayed and abandoned animals a year throughout South East Queensland. The AWL receives no state or federal government funding, relying predominantly on the community for support. It is through the continued support of the community that we will achieve a brighter future for every companion animal in need.

Breeders Permits and Subsidised Desexing

Please help by telling everyone about the new requirements for Breeders Permits on the Gold Coast AND the desexing support available. Any Gold Coast resident with an entire animal who breeds or intends to breed now has to apply for a Breeder Permit and follow a Code of Practice from Gold Coast City Council. Cost is $369 ... plus ALL kittens must now be desexed BEFORE they are sold – or given away! Go to http://www.goldcoast.qld.gov.au/t_standard2.aspx?pid=9027

Desexing support is available for people to avoid becoming an unpermitted breeder and a fine. A special GCCC subsidy program is being offered in August & September for owners in financial need to desex their female cats for $40 with a GCCC Desexing Voucher. Applications for the voucher need to be made through NDN on 5509 9001. During August (National Desexing Month) participating vets are also offering special prices. Go to www.ndn.org.au to find a vet near you.

(See Brief Breeders Permit and Desex Support Information Sheet and a more detailed Breeder Permit Q&A) on our AWL Qld website. For more information contact Joy on 0417 788 063 or 5509 9027)
