The Animal Welfare League Qld is excited to announce the launch of their new iPhone app which hopes to make shelter animals go viral and increase their chances of finding a forever home.

Adopt Meme will not only list all animals available for adoption but will give the user the opportunity to write captions (or meme) on pet profiles and share via social media sites Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or email to a friend.

AWLQ Communications Manager Brooke Whitney hopes the app will increase rehoming numbers and keep the AWLQ in the forefront in people’s minds when they are looking to adopt a new pet.

“Every animal photo is watermarked with our website address and information on where they can adopt the animal in the photo”.

“The app is fun to use, even if you aren’t looking to adopt and the more you share the animal photos the better chance they have of finding a home”, Ms Whitney says.

The Animal Welfare League of Qld relies heavily on social media to rehome pets. Their Facebook page has more than 31,000 followers who continually share animal photos within their own network of friends.

The idea came about after the marketing team noticed how many times a Facebook photo was being shared.

“Any featured animal photo can have over 100 shares in as little as 20 minutes. If there is a heartfelt story attached that number can triple!” Ms Whitney says.

“With next to no marketing budget we need and are so grateful for social media to reach people. 70% of our animals find a home because they have seen their profile online”.

“We are constantly looking for innovative ways to get our animals noticed. This app will allow people to have our animals in their pockets 24/7”, Ms Whitney says

The app will also have a pet problems link which can help troubleshoot pet behaviour problems, FAQ, a favourites section and donate button.

“Animals are sometimes surrendered to the AWLQ due to behavioural problems that people don’t have the time or the know how to fix. We hope that the information on this app will help people work through their pet problems before surrendering it to the rehoming centre is their only option”, Ms Whitney says.
