When you meet 7 year old Jamie you can’t help but fall in love. His happy personality and big sloppy kisses hide an ordeal that sadly the senior members of our community face on a regular basis.

The Chihuahua x Fox Terrier was the best friend of and adored by a man who was terminally ill. He slept on the end of the bed and they were together every moment of the day. When Jamie’s owner’s health eventually got worse he knew he had to make the heart breaking decision to say goodbye. On the 29th of June Jamie was surrendered to the Animal Welfare League of Qld because his owner wanted him to have a second chance at life that he could no longer provide.

Enter Drew Reece.

Drew was looking for a pet to adopt and came across Jamie’s story on our website. “When I read that he had just lost his owner of the past 7 years I knew I had to meet him”.

On the 4th of July, just 5 days after he was surrendered at the Gold Coast Rehoming Centre in Coombabah, Jamie met his new owner. Upon meeting Jamie, Drew and his partner knew they couldn’t leave the shelter without taking him home with them. “We can see how loved (and well fed) he is and we are so happy we got meet him and adopt him into our home,” Drew says.

The Animal Welfare League of Qld exists to help the community and their pets.  For more than 53 years we have been giving second chances to thousands of animals throughout South East Qld just like Jamie. To help us to continue our lifesaving work please DONATE TODAY.
