The Animal Welfare League takes care of and finds
homes for animals when their owners don't want them anymore. At any time,
many animals, up to 60 cats and 70 dogs, are waiting for homes. Each animal
will make a loving family pet, yet sometimes a dog or a cat waits months before
they are adopted. Perhaps this is because people don't know that so many animals
need a home, or how wonderful they can be as companion animals.
What YOU can do:
You
can join the Best Friends Program to help promote and rehome the animals in
one of our dog pens by involving your school community eg.
Promote your pen's animals in the
school newsletter, at assemblies, at school events, etc.

Provide
extra support for dogs in your pen that have been there for a long time by:
fostering, organising newspaper or shopping centre promotion or doing volunteer
walking with parents
Sponsor
your pen for 6 months ($300) or a year ($500) through a fundraiser e.g. free
dress day
You
can have an AWL donation bin at your school to collect food, kitty litter,
towels, blankets and new animal toys.
You
can arrange for small groups to visit the refuge with your parents/teachers
to walk the animals in your pen.
Give
toys and clothes to one of our five Opportunity Shops (for location, please
contact us)
Your
family can become foster carers - Many cute kittens (and sometimes their mother)
need a loving home where they stay for a short period of time until they grow
big enough to be desexed before they can be adopted.
Ask if your family would like to
buy pet products at our Sanctuary Pet Shop
Adopt
a pet from us!
You can become a member for only
$5 a year to receive our newsletter and be involved in what's going on.
