Wear a Tail Day

Friday 18 August is Wear a tail day!

AWLQ has been helping homeless animals for almost 60 years. Animals that are unwanted, lost, abused or abandoned come to AWLQ to receive the care they need and to find new loving homes.  It costs money to provide food, shelter, medication and care for these animals and that’s why we need your help!

Support from local schools and community groups has always been very important to AWLQ – just think how many families within your community who have a pet adopted from us!

We also think it is essential that young people learn about caring responsibly for their pets and are actively involved in giving back to community organisations who work with animals in need.

WEAR A TAIL DAY is an easy and fun way for schools and young groups to raise money and contribute to help homeless animals whilst getting creative!

Once your school or group is registered, you can get started building your tail and saving your gold coins to bring in on Friday 18th August!

It’s as easy as that!

Who can be involved?

Wear a Tail Day is open to anyone who wants to get creative to raise awareness of homeless animals. The concept was originally aimed at children, however since it’s inception we have had lots of interest from older groups as well!

These could include:
– Childcare Centres
– Kindergartens
– Primary Schools
– High Schools
– Youth Groups
– Tafe and Colleges
– University Students
– Community Groups
– Parent Groups
– Individuals
– Workplaces
– and more!

We also strongly encourage teachers (and bosses) to wear a tail for the day as well!

how do we get involved?

Firstly you need to get your school principal (or director) on board. Ask your parents or a teacher to help you approach the principal and tell her or him why you would like your school to support AWLQ.

Once your principal or teacher agrees, you will need to get a teacher to complete an Online Registration Form at the bottom of this page and you will receive further instructions and promotional collateral to support your event.

On Friday 18th August make sure you wear your home-made tails to work or school for the day. Everyone who wears a tail should also bring along a gold coin donation.

Don’t forget to take pics of your tails!  On Friday 18th August, take a photo and share on social media using the hashtag #AWLQTailsOn so we can see all the great tails!

What do you get out of it?

First of all, you get a good feeling inside that you have done something to help your community. That is the best feeling of all!

You also get a chance to express yourself by making your your own tail! We will also send you instructions on how to make a tail if you need some guidance to get you started.

Every school or group that registers and donates will receive an official AWLQ Certificate of Appreciation in thanks for their participation and their compassion for animals in need.
