Alexandrine parrots can live up to 30 years so providing them with a large cage is most important. All parrots need to have plenty of natural wood perches of different thicknesses to help maintain toe and foot health. Maintaining a good cage hygiene is vital, any spilled and old food and excrements should be spot cleaned daily and the cage fully cleaned weekly. Parrots love chewing, so they need plenty of soft wood chewing toys as well as hard wearing acrylic toys and special bird foraging toys. Avoid any toys with string or fabric to avoid gastrointestinal blockages. Be sure to rotate the toys weekly so your bird doesn't get bored of them. Alexandrine parrots need 3-4 hours of supervised playtime outside the cage daily. Parrots are very intelligent and great learners, daily 10 min training with positive reinforcement is great bonding time. Having a pet parrot is really like having a toddler, the owners must take good care of the parrot's physical and mental well-being.

Help AWLQ continue to care for homeless animals like me...

Please visit our Animal Rehoming Centres during opening hours to meet our animals and adopt. No appointment is needed. For select animals, we will require an email application. Where this is the case, instructions will be specified on the animal’s profile.

This website is live and updates frequently. To check if an animal is available, please check their adoption profile. If it is active and hasn’t been marked as ‘adopted’, the animal is still here.

Please be aware there is a chance that by the time you arrive at our location, the animal you have an interest in might have been adopted, or another party might be going through the adoption process.
