Learn more about Cheeky
Meet our lovely Cheeky!
Cheeky is hand tamed and loves to sit and dance and your shoulder! He would love to go to a home that loves birds and will be able to provide all the care he needs.
While Lorikeets are beautiful birds and can make a wonderful family pet, proper care for your lorikeet is important to ensure they live a long and happy life. If being kept as aviary birds, the enclosure should be long enough to allow the birds to fly. Lorikeets are inquisitive, animated and energetic birds. Adequate social interaction (either with people or other birds) and environmental enrichment are important to prevent boredom and associated behavioural and health problems. Lorikeets are naturally adapted to swinging and hanging upside down to retrieve nectar and therefore enjoy toys such as swings to mimic these behaviours. Leafy native Australian tree branches also provide good entertainment as well as perch sites. Lorikeets readily eat most fruits including apple, pear, grapes, melon, pawpaw and orange. Native browse is important for both nutrition and enrichment. Flowering cuttings from bottlebrush, eucalyptus, grevillea and banksia plants should be given on a daily basis. Please Note:
Please visit our Animal Rehoming Centres during opening hours to meet our animals and adopt. No appointment is needed. For select animals, we will require an email application. Where this is the case, instructions will be specified on the animal's profile.
This website is live and updates frequently. To check if an animal is available, please check their adoption profile. If it is active and hasn't been marked as 'adopted', the animal is still here.
Please be aware there is a chance that by the time you arrive at our location, the animal you have an interest in might have been adopted, or another party might be going through the adoption process.
