When Ruby and Onyx arrived at the Animal Welfare League of Qld you could have sworn there was just one cat in the carrier. Ruby, an outgoing six year old cat was taking up most of the crate while super shy Onyx hid buried deep beneath a towel. The pair were being surrendered due to their owners inability to care for them and Onyx especially was not happy about it.
Ruby and Onyx had lived together but were not necessarily the best of friends. As polar opposites Ruby was vivacious and playful while Onyx preferred the quite life of relaxing and snoozing the day away. Over the years this led to Onyx becoming more and more introverted which was something our volunteers wanted to help change while giving her the opportunity to become a little more confident. For that reason staff decided not to rehome the pair together.
Staff thought it would take a little time to find the gorgeous Onyx a home. Being a black cat that hid under furniture meant that she would be easy to lose in an enclosure full of cats. As luck would have it though, an independent and quiet loving cat was just what the Louttit family were looking for and when a staff member introduced them to Onyx they were very interested indeed!
Mr and Mrs Louttit had a dog that had recently passed away and were looking for a companion who would require little maintenance. Onyx was the perfect match for them and the loving couple adopted her then and there.
Ruby is still looking for her forever home which we are sure is just around the corner. In the meantime our cheeky little lady will continue to charm anyone and everyone she meets.
One of the many benefits that come with adopting a pet from our rehoming centres is that the staff know in detail the likes and dislikes of the animals in our care. They are able to match you with a pet that will fit your lifestyle perfectly and ensure you make the right decision.
