GOING GREY APPLICATION

The greyhounds who come into our care requiring foster care are generally recently retired racing greyhounds. They are accustomed to highly structured routines, with few opportunities to make choices or experience life in a home environment.

As they adjust to life after racing, each greyhound has individual needs and preferences. Some may be suitable to live alongside other animals, while others may be more comfortable as the only pet in the home. We carefully match each greyhound with the most appropriate foster family to support a successful transition.

Our greyhounds are generally best suited to homes with older, dog-savvy children (8+ years) who understand how to read and respect a dog’s body language. Their favourite thing in the world is spending time with people, so foster carers who are home more often than not, such as those who work from home, are ideal.

Because most have never lived in a home before, everyday experiences such as stairs, glass doors, household noises, and different flooring may be unfamiliar. For this reason, we ask that foster carers live in a single-level home with minimal stairs to help make their transition as safe and stress-free as possible.
