Volunteering with AWLQ: David’s Story
Volunteers are the beating heart of Animal Welfare League Queensland – and for the last 9 years, David Presland has been one of its strongest.
After moving to the area in 2017, a neighbour suggested volunteering with AWLQ. From his very first day working with the dogs, David says he was hooked. What began as a way to give back during retirement, quickly became something far more meaningful.
Through volunteering, David found friendship, purpose, and a sense of community among people who share his love of animals. Over the years, he’s generously contributed his valuable I.T. skills and assisted at countless community events, often with his beloved dog Charlie in tow.
His advice to anyone considering volunteering is simple:
“They must! It’s something you can do, it doesn’t cost anything other than time and you’re giving back to the community. It’s a great place to volunteer with great people doing their best for the animals.”
As David prepares for his next adventure in the UK, he says what he’ll miss most are the people, camaraderie, the support and of course the animals.
We are incredibly grateful to David, and to all our amazing volunteers who give their time and skills to support our mission to help animals in need.
