- Simple in-store action helps prevent crisis-driven pet relinquishment
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
11 June, 2026
Animal Welfare League Queensland (AWLQ) is proud to partner with SavourLife and Petstock to deliver the Feed It Forward campaign — a practical initiative designed to help keep pets fed, healthy and with their families during times of financial pressure.
The bond between people and pets is fundamental to wellbeing. No pet parent should have to choose between feeding themselves and feeding their dog a nutritious meal.
For pet parents facing sudden financial pressure, access to food support can help relieve stress and give families breathing room when they need it most.
How It Works
With rising living costs placing increased strain on households across Queensland, access to pet food can make a critical difference for people experiencing hardship.
That’s why this June, every SavourLife dry food purchase at Petstock triggers a 3kg SavourLife Essentials donation to community partners like AWLQ. These donations are distributed through AWLQ’s Outreach and Pet Pantry programs to support pet parents facing financial hardship, housing instability or crisis.
Total donations are capped at $250,000 retail value.
By making a simple in-store purchase this June, customers can directly contribute to feeding a vulnerable pet and help to keep them with the person who loves them.
Stronger Together
United by a shared commitment to pet welfare, Feed It Forward brings together key organisations across Australia to deliver its goal of providing 80,000 meals to vulnerable pet parents nationally.
SavourLife and AWLQ are working together as key Queensland partners in Feed It Forward to create better lives for pets and the people who love them across the state.
By combining SavourLife’s purpose-led approach with AWLQ’s strong community outreach programs and trusted support network, the partnership allows us to reach further, engage deeper and deliver meaningful impact where it is needed most.
Growing Community Need
Melinda Phipps, Head of Prevention & Advocacy at AWLQ, said demand for assistance continues to rise.
“Across Queensland, we’re seeing more people struggling to afford the basics – and for many, that includes feeding their pets. Pets are family, providing a vital source of connection, companionship and emotional support, particularly for people experiencing hardship, isolation or homelessness. Through AWLQ’s Outreach and Pet Pantry programs, we’re supporting vulnerable community members who are doing everything they can to keep their pets safe and cared for. Campaigns like Feed it Forward have a direct and immediate impact, allowing us to provide essential pet food support to people doing it tough, reducing crisis-driven pet relinquishments, and helping keep people and pets together when they need each other most.”
AWLQ works closely with frontline outreach partners supporting individuals experiencing homelessness and social isolation.
One such partner is Burleigh Church of Christ’s missional arm Beached@Burleigh, which supports more than 150 people each week.
“Our missional arm ‘Beached@Burleigh’ supports over 150 people a week experiencing homelessness, crisis and those that feel isolated within our community. A significant number of our guests have pets, most commonly dogs. These animals aren’t just companions – they provide protection, connection and emotional support in often unstable conditions. We are so grateful to the pet food donations that come in through AWLQ in Coombabah as this helps our guests hold onto one of the few stable positive relationships they may have in their lives, whilst also relieving a financial burden.”
