Animal Welfare League Queensland welcomes new CEO to lead the organisation into a new era

Animal Welfare League Queensland (AWLQ) is proud to announce the appointment of Sam Jacklin as Chief Executive Officer, commencing on Tuesday, 6 May 2025.

With an impressive career spanning both the not-for-profit and corporate sectors in Australia and the UK, Sam brings a wealth of experience and an unwavering passion for animal welfare to her new role. Her background includes key leadership roles with the Animal Welfare League South Australia and RSPCA Queensland, where she made significant contributions to animal welfare outcomes and fundraising success.

Sam’s depth of knowledge in the sector is matched by her strong credentials in strategic transformation, financial management, stakeholder engagement, and organisational growth. She has worked extensively across South Australia and Queensland, building a reputation as a dynamic and compassionate leader who delivers results.

“AWLQ has a rich history of working in partnership with the community to support animals in need. With innovative initiatives such as community outreach programs and vet clinics, National Desexing Network (NDN), Getting to Zero (G2Z), the Cat Assistance Team (CAT) plus so much more – I couldn’t be more excited to join this game changing organisation as we embark on our next chapter together.” Ms Jacklin said.

“We are thrilled to welcome Sam to AWLQ,” said Sue Spencer, Chair of the AWLQ Board. “Her proven leadership and deep commitment to the welfare of animals make her the ideal person to guide our organisation into its next chapter.”

AWLQ has been a driving force for animal welfare in Queensland for over six decades. The organisation operates community-focused Animal Rehoming Centres, delivers low-cost veterinary services, and implements progressive animal management strategies in collaboration with councils and partners. AWLQ’s mission is to improve the lives of companion animals through innovative programs that reduce euthanasia rates, increase adoption outcomes, and provide compassionate care for every animal that comes through its doors.

As CEO, Sam will lead AWLQ in continuing its mission to create lasting positive change for animals in need, while strengthening community partnerships and driving innovation across all areas of the organisation. Sam’s strategic vision and heartfelt dedication position her to be a transformative leader on AWLQ’s ongoing journey to build a more humane and compassionate world for companion animals.
