AWLQ proud to support Gold Coast Homeless Connect 2025 and provide pet support for vulnerable members of our community

Animal Welfare League Queensland (AWLQ) is proud to once again support the Gold Coast Homeless Connect event on Wednesday 6th August, providing essential veterinary care and pet supplies to those experiencing homelessness or hardship. This marks AWLQ’s ninth year of involvement, reflecting its ongoing commitment to helping both people and their beloved pets.

This year, AWLQ will aim to assist around 250 individuals, delivering vital services and support for companion animals, including:

  • Vet consultations
  • 1,200kg of pet food – equivalent to approximately 6,000 dog meals and 6,000 cat meals
  • C3 dog vaccinations
  • 400 parasite preventatives
  • Hundreds of pet retail items – including collars, leads, bedding and toys

A dedicated AWLQ veterinary team, including one veterinarian and two veterinary nurses, will be on site to provide professional care and advice.

“It’s always a privilege to support the Homeless Connect event each year, and I’m thrilled to help again this year,” said Toban Sutton, AWLQ Outreach Co-ordinator.

“The pet owners attending the event cherish their pets and often put their animals before themselves during tough times. Having the chance for AWLQ to provide vet services and pet support for these caring owners is fantastic. It’s a small part of what Homeless Connect achieves to help those in need.”

Gold Coast Homeless Connect is a vital annual event that brings together government, community organisations, and volunteers to provide free services to those at risk of or experiencing homelessness. AWLQ’s involvement ensures that no pet is forgotten when it comes to care, health, and comfort.

AWLQ will be at Homeless Connect from 8am – 2pm at People First Stadium in Carrara.
