AWLQ offers free pet vaccinations as parvovirus and panleukopenia
outbreaks continue across South Brisbane and Ipswich
As outbreaks of canine parvovirus and feline panleukopenia continue to impact South Brisbane and Ipswich, Animal Welfare League Queensland (AWLQ) is stepping in to help. In partnership with Boehringer Ingelheim, AWLQ is offering free vaccinations to support pet owners and curb the spread of these deadly, but preventable, diseases.
Over the past six months, AWLQ’s Rehoming Centres and Community Vet Clinics have reported a sharp rise in cases across suburbs in the affected regions. The spike has been worsened by reduced vaccination uptake, driven by the rising cost of living and limited access to veterinary care.
To respond to the crisis, AWLQ will hold monthly free Parvo vaccination clinics at its Brisbane and Ipswich Community Vet Clinics from June through August. These vaccinations are free to residents of Woodridge, Kingston, Inala, Collingwood Park, Goodna, and Redbank Plains.
Parvo Vaccination Clinic Dates:
- Brisbane Community Vet Clinic:
- 21 June
- 19 July
- 23 August
- Ipswich Community Vet Clinic:
- 28 June
- 26 July
- 16 August
Walk-ins only; no appointments required.
Free canine parvovirus vaccinations will be available for dogs under two years old. Vaccine supplies are limited.
In addition, free feline panleukopenia vaccinations will be available by appointment only at AWLQ’s Ipswich Community Vet Clinic for cat owners from eligible suburbs. Cat owners must provide proof of residence from Brassall, Leichhardt, Raceview, Redbank Plains, Goodna, or Collingwood Park.
“We know cost and access have been barriers for many families,” said Dr Sarah, Senior Veterinarian of AWLQ’s Community Vet Clinic. “These free vaccination clinics are our way of helping the community protect their pets and stop the spread of diseases that are entirely preventable. Thanks to Boehringer’s generous support, we’re able to offer hundreds of free vaccinations to those who might otherwise go without.”
AWLQ encourages eligible pet owners to take advantage of these free services to help protect their pets—and the wider community—from further outbreaks.
