AWLQ launches a Halloween sale for long-term pets looking for their fur-ever home

Animal Welfare League Queensland is treating and not tricking this Halloween, hosting a week-long Halloween adoption sale with prices starting from just $30.

From today to Monday, 31st of October, animals waiting over 30 days to be adopted will be available at a reduced adoption fee. Long-term cats will be available for the sweet fee of $30, and long-term dogs a treat at $80.

The adoption sale will run throughout AWLQ’s Animal Rehoming Centres across the Gold Coast, Brisbane and Ipswich.

AWLQ Spokesperson Craig Montgomery said that AWLQ hopes this promotion will provide an extra incentive to visit the Animal Rehoming Centres and choose to adopt a homeless animal.

“We encourage people looking for a new furry family member to visit an AWLQ Animal Rehoming Centre to meet the animals waiting for a second chance at happiness,” he said.

As the weather warms up, the Animal Rehoming Centres will soon see an influx of animals, so every rehomed animal provides a space for another in need.

As Howl-o-ween approaches, Craig said, “While we celebrate Halloween with an adoption sale, it is also a time to exercise caution when it comes to your pets. We encourage pet owners to follow simple tips to help keep their pets safe, healthy and out of any scary trouble this Halloween.”

  • Ensure your pet is safely confined or wearing identification tags and their microchip details are up-to-date, in case they escape while you’re distracted with trick-or-treaters.
  • Please don’t leave pets outside on Halloween, as this may place them and trick-or-treaters at risk.
  • Don’t feed your pets Halloween lollies or chocolates, as these can be poisonous to animals.
  • Place any candle-lit Halloween decorations well out of reach of your pet.
  • Keep glow sticks and glow jewellery away from your pets, as the liquid in these products is harmful to animals.

AWLQ’s standard adoption processes still apply throughout the howl-o-ween sale. All cats and dogs are desexed, microchipped, vaccinated and wormed.
