Darla the Great Dane arrived to the AWLQ in early January very underweight and with heat rashes in need of treatment. She was checked over by our vet in detail and it was decided that Darla should be cared for in a foster home to put on weight and to give her rashes time to heal with meds.
Almost two months later she arrived back to the Animal Welfare League Qld in search of a new home.
Rebecca had been looking for a young Great Dane for her family. She had previously owned Dane’s as a child and definitely wanted to adopt one. When she came across Darla’s photo on the AWLQ website she jumped in the car with her daughter and made the quick trip from Brisbane to our Gold Coast shelter to meet her.
Rebecca spent quite a lot of time in the dog yards throwing a ball around with Darla and watching her interact with her daughter. When Rebecca learned that Darla had been with us since January and had arrived underweight she was determined to give Darla the life she deserved; One where she would be made to feel part of the family. She decided Darla would be coming home with her and bought everything she needed to make Darla comfortable from our Rehoming Centre shop.
Darla will now call Brisbane home, Rebecca even mentioned Darla may have get very own doggy door! (We can’t wait to see photos of that)
