We were very excited to say goodbye to long term resident Pumpkin the cat this past weekend. Pumpkin had been at the shelter since August 2012 and was longing for an owner to call her own.

Staff described Pumpkin as a beautiful, affectionate girl who loves human company, she spent her days lazing in the sunshine and keeping to herself. Pumpkin didn’t particularly care for the other cats at the shelter but craved human companionship. This was exactly what her new owner Donna was looking for.

Donna came to the Animal Welfare League of Qld after seeing a couple of cats online that took her fancy and decided it was a good time for her to adopt. She had no other pets at home so was looking for a pet to keep her company and one she would be able to cuddle up with.

When staff suggested Pumpkin, “the cat who loves to sit on your shoulder like a parrot” she knew she was in for a treat and decided to meet and consequently adopt pumpkin then and there.

Staff were overjoyed that our long term resident finally had a person she could rely on and insisted on taking a few happy snaps before she was taken home.

Donna is enjoying her new best friend and sent this letter of thanks to our staff

This is Pumpkin, she was a bit tired after exploring. She follows me everywhere and loves her toys. Thank you Ric for your time today she is a totally different girl at home. All I need to do now is either buy reinforced clothing or clip her nails.

A big thank you to AWLQ for making this adoption such a wonderful experience. I am sure Pumpkin will be happy here.
