Teen Volunteering

AWLQ’s Teen Volunteering Program is open to teens aged 13 – 17, who love animals and are considering volunteering at our AWLQ Gold Coast Rehoming Centre.Participants will be guided through the daily animal care routines for our cats, dogs and small animals in preparation for what will be required of them as a volunteer in the future.

The program is run by fully qualified staff and trainers at the Gold Coast Rehoming Centre (located at Coombabah).

As you can imagine, scheduling our limited staff, resources, training new volunteers, logistics and capacity to manage this 1-day process can be very time-consuming. As a result, we ask for a $70 administration fee to cover the costs of training, WHS, insurance and a dedicated staff member to train the students for the day. We thank you for your contribution to cover these costs.

Please note that applicants under the age of 13 will not be accepted.

The AWLQ Volunteer Department assesses the availability on a quarterly basis and if Teen Volunteer Positions are available we will schedule a Teen Volunteering Course, typically within the Qld School Holiday period.

DATES FOR THE UPCOMING TEEN VOLUNTEER PROGRAM AT THE AWLQ GOLD COAST REHOMING CENTRE ARE:

Due to the effects on the volunteering sector from the recent global challenges, Animal Welfare League Queensland has made the difficult decision to once again suspend our Teen Volunteer Course.

AWLQ Volunteer Department will review this program again late 2022. Please keep an eye out on the website for updates closer to this period.

As an alternative, your child may be interested in attending our One Day Animal Care Course for 11-16 year olds. This course is for students who love animals and want to learn more about working in the animal industry. Students gain real-life industry experience and animal care skills in a fun and rewarding environment. NB: This is a one day course only and does not give students the opportunity to be a Teen Volunteer at our Gold Coast Rehoming Centre.

We thank you for your understanding and ongoing support.
